Chris Brogan recently sat down with Deb Orton of SAS to talk about social media. The video sessions were released on the company’s Get, Grow, Keep blog, and until yesterday, I’d never seen them. While a video with Chris Brogan is certainly not a new event, these struck me as quite different and unique.
Any engagement with Chris Brogan is to take away some insightful and actionable advice, be it watching a video, attending an event or conference where Chris is speaking, or reading one of his books. I really appreciated the calm and intentional nature of these videos as well as the interview format. I hope that you find something that you can use in them today.

Great resource, James! I particularly appreciated one simple yet often overlooked marketing perspective and Chris sums it up beautifully – "Just because you CAN talk to me doesn't mean I'm your client." Marketers in this new landscape need to be better prospectors and qualifiers and ensure that people are their right target before initiating the sales cycle. Nothing is worse than feeling that you were SOLD and didn't buy; or even worse, someone is trying to sell TO you yet you're not the right prospect.
…all quickly moving toward and embracing digital in so many aspects that touch our daily lives. The trick is to be digital and yet remain so very human! It’s always nice to hear from you Randy. Thank you for your comment.
What’s the saying that I’m thinking of Taryn, “The best marketing is never seen and perceived as marketing”? It may be just me, but skilled and effective marketing is something I can live with! I appreciate your thoughtful comment today.
If you dont build some skills and assets in the digital world you will start loose what you've got in the real world. The world (your customers) is moving to the 'new' media with or without you. It takes time, yes, but is more effective than the marketing habits of years past.
Thank you for the post, and the kind words about the intentional nature of the videos. Working with Chris Brogan was a lot of fun, and he is a natural in this environment.
As marketers, we are all integrating Social Media in to our campaigns. As a marketing leader, I find myself using the classic Change Management methods to help move an organization to digital marketing at an acceptable pace. The video project and our GetGrowKeep (http://blogs.sas.com/getgrowkeep/) blog is a way for me to keep the topic front of mind every day.

I loved the videos and thought that they were very well done…Chris was comfortable talking with you and it showed…not that he's uncomfortable by nature…I'm just used to seeing him in high-energy mode on stage someplace. That may have been what grabbed my attention, that he was so relaxed. Very nice job from you as an interviewer as well! Thank you so much for stopping in and commenting today!
