My friend Todd Schnick started talking about “The #40in240 project” way back in August of last year. I am very pleased to be able to share the finished eBook with you here today. Todd did an incredible job pulling this together and seeing it through to its launch yesterday. I really appreciate the desire in his heart to do something like this in the first place. Well done my friend!
- The Goal: The guide, for our young people, to live an intrepid life and career.
- The Rules: 40 people, in no more than 240 words.
His own words from the introduction:
“My life didn’t exactly turn out the way I planned. I made mistakes, did things wrong, and my career today looks dramatically different than I imagined upon college graduation.
I wish someone had told me this is how it would turn out. I would have had a lot more fun along the way…that’s the genesis of the idea behind this book – to hear from real people, telling real stories, sharing the hard lessons they learned from their personal successes and failures.” – Todd Schnick

I’m truly honored to be included in this eBook. Some really amazing people came together and contributed to this memorable project; I feel doubly blessed in that I call many of those included my personal friends.
Please do pass this along to those that you may know that are just coming up in business. It would be awesome if you would share some of “what you know now” with those whose “back then” is just beginning in the comment section today!

Wow. This is really a wonderful piece of work. Congratulations and thanks to all that contributed and thanks to Todd for thinking of it and James for contributing and sharing it here.
I plan to share this with all three of my kids (two at the start of their careers one still in school) and I'll be sharing it with the numerous young graduates we interview at MLT Creative too.
Thanks again!
Thank you for such kind words Billy! Reading this just made my day…and what's more, It affirms the why behind doing the project in the first place. It was an honor to work on…and it's a real honor to know that people find it useful! Thank you for stopping in to leave a comment today. I really appreciate it.
billy – most grateful for the kind words. it was a pleasure to be a part of it, and to work with people like james.
i so hope your kids get some value out of it… that's the best part about the project!
Todd & James,
As someone who is currently going through what many of these experiences document, there are many lessons to be learned for someone who is currently trying to break into the advertising world right after college. I really enjoyed seeing these different perspectives, but I'm sure as many of these contributors would also add, going through each one of those different paths is the only way to truly understand the lesson after-the-fact. Hopefully, some opportunity will present itself soon for me, and when it does, I'll be ready!
